Day-by-Day Itinerary

Day 1: Heritage Journey from Kigali to Nyungwe

Your exploration begins with a morning departure from Kigali. We travel southward, making significant stops to immerse ourselves in Rwanda's rich history and culture at the royal history site at Nyanza — a reconstruction of the traditional royal residence offering a look at pre-colonial monarchy, featuring the impressive long-horned Inyambo cattle that are central to Rwandan heritage. Thereafter proceed to Huye to visit the Ethnographic Museum, considered one of the finest collections in East Africa. Have lunch then drive toward the majestic Nyungwe National Park — an ancient montane rainforest home to 13 primate species.

Overnight: Nyungwe Forest

Day 2: Chimpanzee Tracking & Canopy Adventure

Today is dedicated to the unique biodiversity of the high-altitude rainforest.

Chimpanzee Trekking: We start early with a trek into the forest to locate one of the habituated chimpanzee communities. Your expert guides will lead you through the dense vegetation, sharing insights into the social behaviors and habitats of our closest relatives.

Canopy Walkway: In the afternoon, experience the forest from a different perspective on the Canopy Walk. Suspended 70 meters above the forest floor, this walkway offers breathtaking views of the massive ancient trees and a chance to spot various bird species and smaller primates.

Overnight: Nyungwe Forest Area

Day 3: Lake Kivu Exploration

After breakfast drive toward the scenic shores of Lake Kivu. On arrival board a boat for a journey north to Karongi. Along the way, witness the unique sight of "swimming cows" as local farmers guide their cattle between islands for grazing, and stop at Napoléon Island, famous for its large colony of fruit bats. A short hike to the island's summit provides panoramic views of the lake and the surrounding thousands of hills.

Overnight: Karongi

Day 4: Leisure at Lake Kivu and Return to Kigali

Spend your final morning enjoying the tranquillity of the lakeside, or take a final stroll through the resort town of Karongi. After lunch, we begin the scenic drive back to Kigali, where your driver will drop you at the airport or your preferred hotel.
